Similan Islands

2 Dive Day Trip

The Similan islands are an archipelago of eleven islands in the Andaman Sea that are located 70km off the coast in the Phang Nga Province in Southern Thailand. The islands became a National Marine Park in 1982 to protect the diverse beauty of the Similan Islands above and below the surface.

Due to the Covid situation, very few people have been to the Similan Islands over the last twelve months and the reports coming back are that the quality of the marine life and clarity of the water is the best that has been seen for many many years.

Koh Racha Noi Manta Ray Scuba Diving

In 2018 there was a limit on the number of visitors to the Similan Islands imposed by Thailand’s National Marine Park to 3,325 people per day. This was imposed as before 2018 there were on average over 7,000 people per day entering the Similan Islands. So when you are thinking of visiting the Similan Islands it is best to book well in advance, as when all the day tickets are reserved or sold then we are unable to book anyone in on that day.

The Similan Islands are best experienced on either an overnight Similan liveaboard trip or a longer Similan liveaboard trip – but if you are pushed for time then the day trip is perfect to experience their beauty. This day trip is a long day due to the remote location of the Similan’s but well worth the journey.

Similan Islands Scuba Diving Liveaboards Thailand

No matter where you stay in Phuket / Koh Lak we organise return hotel transfers for you by air-conditioned minivan. The minivan journey from Phuket takes around 2 hours to get to Thap Lamu pier where a speedboat awaits to whisk you to the Similan liveaboard in around one and a half hours. Once you get to the Similan Islands you will join the liveaboard boat that is permanently there for the season. Your rental scuba diving gear and your dive guide will be onboard the Similan liveaboard waiting for you to go on your first dive of the day around 10.30 am.

When you are back from your first dive and discussing what you encountered there will be a freshly cooked buffet-style lunch served. After lunch and a bit of relaxing time, it is onto the second dive site around 1.30 pm.
Once you are back from your second dive and everyone is ready to make the journey back to the mainland – the speedboat leaves the Similan liveaboard around 3.00 pm and arrives back in Thap Lamu pier at 4.30 pm where the minivan will be waiting to get you back to your hotel at around 6.30 pm.
As you can see this is a long day but totally worth it.
