LEARN TO DIVE IN PHUKET
The PADI Open Water Course is our most popular way to learn to dive in Phuket and is the world’s most popular scuba course. As a certified PADI Open Water Diver, you have the freedom to dive with another certified scuba diver to a maximum depth of 18 meters anywhere in the world. If you have a child between 10 and 14, we offer a PADI Junior Open Water Diver course.
The PADI Open Water Course covers all the essential skills needed to learn to dive in Phuket, including scuba diving equipment, buddy diving system, communication with others underwater and scuba dive planning. Additionally, it covers boat diving procedures, health in diving, breathing air at depth, primary compass navigation and practical application skills in open water training dives. It sounds a lot, but when set over three days, there is more than enough time.
On the first day, we come and collect you from your hotel lobby. Your PADI scuba diving instructor will start the day off by doing some theory lessons in the classroom, followed by practical lessons in the scuba pool. By the end of the day, you will have a basic understanding of the diving equipment and feel comfortable underwater in the swimming pool.
On the second day, we will collect you from your hotel lobby and transfer you to Koh Racha Islands for your first scuba diving experience on a tropical coral reef – you are going to be amazed at what lies under the surface.
The Koh Racha islands are the perfect location for your first three dives, as shallow coral reefs surround the islands.
On the third and final day, we will take you to the breathtaking Phi Phi Islands for your final three open water dives. The boat transfer is around an hour longer than the Koh Racha Islands, but when you get to Phi Phi Islands, you will be taken back firstly by the beautiful tropical green covered limestone cliffs cascading into the turquoise blue waters. Once you get underwater, you will experience one of the top scuba diving locations in the world.
During the second and third day, you will undertake six scuba dives. On day two, your dives will be to a maximum of 12 meters and on the final day, 18 meters. The dives generally last for around 45 minutes. When you visit Koh Racha and Phi Phi Islands, there will be a freshly cooked breakfast plus lunch served on board. Since Phuket is close to the equator, the average water temperature is around 28 degrees °C – so it feels like diving in a warm bath, when you learn to dive in Phuket.
You do not have to be superfit to learn to dive in Phuket; virtually anyone who is in good health and reasonably comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification. At some point in the course, we will ask you to demonstrate the ability to swim 200 metres/yards without swim aids or 300 metres/yards with mask, fins and snorkel and tread water for about 10 minutes, but that is about it as far as watermanship goes to learn to dive in Phuket.
When you learn to dive in Phuket this will be the start of a lifetime of exploring the underwater world. The next step after you learn to dive in Phuket is the PADI Advanced open water certification – this expands on past subjects that you would have learnt when you learn to dive in Phuket. The best part of completing your PADI Advanced open water course is that this extends your depth range to 30 meters and opens more dive sites, like our local wreck dive – King Cruiser wreck.
The PADI Open water diver licence is a worldwide diving licence and is valid for life. There are no yearly membership fees and you can scuba dive in any country in the world.
Our group sizes are a maximum of 4 students to one PADI scuba diving instructor, if you would prefer to learn to dive in Phuket and have a private instructor then we can organise this for you.
